As we set mischief to the streets and we're running wild, I look in your eyes and I see the face of our unborn child and I know you are my heart. I this vortex we call home we will work this out. There is more to you and me and what we are about, and I know because you are my heart. We're both standing here looking at each other. We're not smiling, just, as aforementioned, standing...and looking. But from where I'm standing, you're looking good. All I want to do is hold you; I want to feel your hair pressed against my chest. Many times I have told you: "It's Who we are, not What." They can forget all the rest. You'd take a picture just to document our unusual looks, and I a recording, for the footnotes of future books. I cannot wait until you come home when you get off work. I will pick you up and spin you around, and we will go berserk. You are my heart.

We're rolling down a river, I ain't throwing you no lines. You rocked your boat over, why should I pull you into mine? Well I suggest you bail, and you learn how to swim, because the chances of me bailing you out are growing slim. I'd rather go without a paddle than take up your oar. Swim as fast as you are able and head for yonder shore. Now you're clamoring at the side of my vessel and I don't know what for, 'cause come hell or high water, I won't see you anymore. You boast about a giant, but I know the truth behind your boat. You're supposedly indestructible, but constructed of things not meant to float. You've capsized, you realize it, and you have the audacity to confuse me and accuse me for your sinking. I didn't fill your ship to capacity, what the hell were you thinking? What the hell were you thinking? Your ship needs a captain with whom it can go down. You didn't bother with a preserver, so you deserve to drown. Get your hands off the side of my vessel, because I ain't gonna let you in. And come hell or high water, I won't see you again. You're taking on water, but you ain't no martyr. So if you're too big to fail, go ahead and sew another sail. Reap what you sew another sail.

I'll go this way and you go that. You wear the scarf and I'll wear the hat, and we'll parade around this town as if we never heard the sounds of the sirens going off, just the other side of the hill. I'll have the steak, and you have the lamb. We'll send back the chicken and split the ham. We'll sit there and gulp it down as if we never heard the sounds of the sirens going off, just the other side of the hill. You gather wood, and I'll build the fire. You check the oil; I'll check the tires. You top the levels, and I'll fill the pounds, as if we haven't heard the sounds of the sirens going off, just the other side of the hill. I'll load the gun if you will clean it. We'll only pull the trigger if we really mean it, and we'll already have covered ground before they've even heard the sounds of the sirens going off, just the other side of the hill.

about

'All The King's Men' was recorded primarily in one evening in February, 2012, as a cataloguing of The Everest Ruin with its material and members at the time. The album was mixed the day of the final Madison show at The Froth House, February 18th, 2012. It was only released upon request by audience members at that show, and the only copies made were the ones burned on the spot (maybe 15 total). It is presented here in its original form, with no remixing or alterations, with the exception of "Ignore It," which is a bonus track.

about

The Everest Ruin Madison, Wisconsin

The Everest Ruin is the music of Josh King, in either solo or full-band form. It is a mixture of folk, jazz, rock, noise, and snark that addresses the human condition. It started in China. It evolved in Missouri. It flourished in Wisconsin. It brewed in Oregon. It now sleeps, but is dreaming. At its best, it will deconstruct the magic which binds you, and bring revelation to your heart. No shit. ... more
